Why Choose Granite Worktops

From contemporary spaces to more traditional kitchens, granite is a versatile and long-lasting choice for kitchen and bathroom work surfaces. Here are some of the key benefits this classic natural stone offers:

Naturally Durable

One of the toughest natural stones, granite is robust enough to withstand daily use while maintaining its appearance for many years.

Heat resistance

Granite can tolerate high temperatures well, making it ideal for countertops and splashbacks around hobs and cooking areas.

Unique appearance

Every naturally derived slab features distinctive mineral flecks and veining, giving your worktop a truly individual, one-of-a-kind finish.

Broad colour palette

Available in a wide spectrum of tones and patterns, granite complements both contemporary kitchens and more traditional décor schemes.

Surface & Edge Finishes

Choose from polished, honed and textured surface finishes, alongside a range of edge profiles to suit any style of kitchen.

Full supply & installation service

From templating to installation, we coordinate the entire process, working closely with our trusted fabrication and fitting partner to ensure high-quality results.

Bespoke granite kitchen worktops

Every granite worktop we supply is manufactured specifically for your kitchen layout. Following a detailed site survey to create digital templates, granite worktops are precision fabricated using advanced CNC and waterjet technologies combined with expert hand finishing to achieve clean lines, accurate dimensions and a precise fit.

During fabrication, precision cut-outs and features are created for sinks, drain grooves, taps and hobs, for seamless integration into your existing kitchen. Where matching granite splashbacks are included, socket openings can also be carefully cut to accommodate them. Each element is precisely prepared to ensure a perfect fit.

Working with leading stone brands including Cullifords and The Marble & Granite Centre, we can source the widest selection of granite colours and styles – if it exists, we can probably source it for you. From bold statement surfaces to subtle neutrals, your granite kitchen countertops will be tailored to suit your space.

Finishes, detailing and design flexibility

The surface finish you choose will influence the overall look and feel of your granite kitchen worktops. A polished finish enhances depth of colour and creates a sleek appearance that highlights the stone’s patterning. Alternatively, honed granite offers a softer, matte look that is more understated, while leathered and textured finishes introduce a subtle tactile quality for visual interest.

We can also customise your worktop’s edge detailing to complement clean lines in modern kitchens or add character with classic curves. Bevelled or bullnose edges work well in contemporary settings, while decorative Dupont or Ogee profiles provide a more traditional feel. We can also produce stacked edges for a more dramatic look.

Granite can also be used beyond kitchen worktops to top-off breakfast bars and islands, outdoor kitchens, bathroom vanity units, and for creating splashbacks – with or without fluted detailing. This enables you to create a coordinated finish throughout the space and incorporate distinctive yet practical design features.

Granite is known for its longevity and durability compared to other natural stone options. It is also highly resistant to scratches and wear. With proper sealing and routine care, granite worktops can last for decades, maintaining both their performance and appearance over time.

Granite is available in a variety of surface finish options. Here are three of the most popular surface finishes and the differences between them to help you find the right one:

  • Polished: glossy, light-reflecting, colour-enhancing, easy to wipe and modern
  • Honed: matte, softer finish, more subtle, but can show fingerprints more easily
  • Leathered: textured feel, very tactile and hides smudges well

Still unsure? We will be happy to show you different surface finishes at our Midhurst showroom and provide advice on the best option for your kitchen.

Granite is easy to clean and maintain. For everyday care, wipe the surface with warm water and a mild washing-up liquid, or specific stone surface cleaner, then dry with a soft cloth. Avoid acidic cleaners like vinegar or lemon, as these can degrade the protective sealant and dull the surface over time. Because granite is naturally porous, it will also require periodic resealing to maintain its stain resistance. Each of our stone worktops is treated with a professional grade impregnating sealant as part of the manufacturing process. Resealing is generally required every 1-3 years, depending on use, to maintain peak water and stain resistance.

Granite kitchen countertops provide very good scratch resistant but not are scratch proof. For this reason, we would not recommend chopping directly on granite surfaces. Instead, use a chopping board to protect the surface finish (and avoid blunting your knives).

Granite copes with heat well, but for care and to avoid thermal shock, we’d advise using a trivet or surface protector – especially for very hot cookware or repeated direct heat in the same spot.

Granite is naturally more stain-resistant than many natural stones. However, it can still stain if spills are left to soak in – particularly on light coloured surfaces. To help prevent this issue, we apply a professional grade sealant to all our stone worktops during the manufacturing process. You should also wipe up spills as soon as you can to lessen the risk of staining.

The good news is that granite is generally far less susceptible to acid etching than marble. With that said, acidic substances should still be wiped away quickly. Otherwise, prolonged contact could weaken the protective sealant and gradually dull the surface finish.

Yes. Sealing helps protect against staining and makes day-to-day cleaning easier. Depending on the type of granite, the chosen finish and how heavily the kitchen is used, worktops may need resealing every 1-3 years. Resealing is usually straightforward. Simply clean the surface well, allow it to dry completely, apply a suitable natural stone sealant and buff away any excess. A professional grade sealant is applied to all of our granite worktops and surfaces as part of the fabrication process.

Both granite and quartz are excellent choices for kitchen and bathroom worktops. They are durable, heat, and stain resistant and available in a wide choice of colours and styles. The choice of which is best comes down to personal preference, the look you wish to achieve and your budget. For more information on the subject, read our article Quartz v Granite.
